Our Story

Born from a conviction, not a business plan

"I believe we don't need to import our pleasures. Everything we need to create excellence is right here, in our soil, our water, our plants."

Before 2017
Godwin Kodjo Akpédjé Agahu grew up in Benin, surrounded by the region's botanical wealth — cashew, soursop, coconut, moringa, traditional medicinal plants. His training as an agronomist fed a conviction: these resources, used for centuries in local medicine and cuisine, deserved to be turned into internationally competitive manufactured products.
November 2017
WINEX GLOBAL INDUSTRIES is founded in Cotonou. Godwin decides to bring his vision to life: creating premium spirits and liqueurs, fully rooted in West African terroir.
2017 — Today
Development of two complementary brands — WAKIZA and OJU — and a range of seven references made exclusively from West African raw materials. Launch of commercial operations in Benin, expanding into Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso through a network of distribution partners.
2026 and beyond
Consolidating the three priority markets and pursuing a clear ambition: making WINEX a reference of the new generation of African spirits, driven by a simple conviction — Africa does not need to imitate in order to create excellence.
The Founder

An agronomist turned brand builder

Godwin Kodjo Akpédjé Agahu, Founder of WINEX Global Industries
Godwin Kodjo
Akpédjé Agahu
Founder & CEO

Godwin Kodjo Akpédjé Agahu is a Beninese entrepreneur, an agronomist by training, and a visionary of the craft spirits industry in West Africa. After deepening his expertise in agronomy and agricultural product processing, he founded WINEX GLOBAL INDUSTRIES in November 2017.

His ambition goes well beyond commerce: he wants to build a brand that African consumers can be proud of. Under his leadership, WINEX has developed a management philosophy built on two inseparable pillars — Warrior's Determination and the Spirit of African Togetherness.

He is convinced that West Africa stands on the brink of a quality local-consumption revolution, and that WAKIZA will be among the brands writing its first chapters.

"The determined warrior does not seek to imitate. He creates what no one else has dared to create, with what his land gives him." — Godwin Kodjo Akpédjé Agahu, Founder
Our Values

What we
deeply believe in

These six values are not words on a wall. They guide every one of our decisions, from production to distribution, from management to our relationships with local communities.

01 ⚔️
Warrior's Determination

Inspired by the legacy of African warriors, this value embodies our absolute refusal of mediocrity. Every obstacle is an invitation to rise stronger. Every goal reached is a collective victory.

02 🤝
The Spirit of Togetherness

African togetherness is our business philosophy. It says: everyone is welcome at our table. Every interaction with a customer, a partner, or a team member is an act of genuine hospitality.

03 🌿
Rootedness in Terroir

Our recipes draw from West Africa's botanical wealth: cashew, soursop, coconut, moringa, cola, ginger. Valuing these treasures means valuing our identity and supporting our local farmers.

04 🏆
Excellence Without Compromise

Every WAKIZA or OJU bottle that leaves our production unit is an ambassador for our company. No compromise on the quality of ingredients, processes, or packaging is acceptable.

05 🌍
African Pride

WINEX fully embraces its African identity. We do not seek to imitate imported brands — we affirm that West Africa can produce world-class spirits, with its own soul.

06 ♻️
Responsibility

Being responsible means protecting the terroir that sustains us, valuing the women and men around us, producing circularly, and promoting moderate, dignified consumption. It is the warrior's duty to his land.

Our Positioning

Accessible African Premium

WAKIZA and OJU occupy a unique strategic space in West Africa, between two extremes that leave a gap in the market.

The Market Gap

Major imported brands remain out of reach for the African middle-class wallet. At the other extreme, existing local brands often suffer from an inconsistent, artisanal image, lacking brand coherence or premium ambition.

Our Response

WAKIZA and OJU fill this gap with internationally competitive products at a fair price, carried by a strong brand identity and a deeply African soul — never seeking to imitate what comes from elsewhere.

"The determined warrior does not seek to imitate. He creates what no one else has dared to create, with what his land gives him." — Godwin Kodjo Akpédjé Agahu

— Godwin Kodjo Akpédjé Agahu · Founder, WINEX Global Industries
Our Philosophy

The spirit that
drives us

I
Uncompromising Determination

Like the African warrior who does not leave the battlefield without having honored his mission, we never let go. Every product, every market, every partnership is approached with the same rigor and the same intensity.

II
Hospitality as Strategy

African togetherness is not a marketing concept — it is our way of being. Every glass of WAKIZA or OJU is an invitation to share, to reconnect, to celebrate together what unites us.

III
Terroir as Foundation

We believe West Africa has everything it takes to produce world-class spirits and liqueurs. Our role is to reveal this richness to the world, without ever betraying it.

Our CSR Policy

"From a Good Heart,
From Good Terroir"

Our 2030 CSR roadmap — four pillars that reflect our conviction that commercial success and environmental and social responsibility are not opposites, but inseparable.

🌿
Living Terroir
Nurturing Terroir
